The great commission given by our Lord (Matt. 28: 19) about 2000 years ago is far from completion. Out of a world's population of 7 billion people, only a third call themselves Christians and only a third of these are evangelical Christians.
"Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations … teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."
Consider this chart
33% of the world population is Christian. Sadly, this percentage includes even the nominal Christians. Only a small part of this percentage is evangelical.
22% are non-believers who live among us. They live in the same houses with us; we meet them everyday in the work place and some even come to our churches.
About 45% of the world has never been reached with the Gospel. They have never known or heard that there is Jesus who came for the salvation of mankind. They have no church or Christian witness among them.
Hundreds of people groups are yet to be reached. Some of these have no single church or a Christian witness among them. They are abandoned both by the church and governments in areas hidden from civilization. These people groups would embrace the good news of Jesus Christ, but the church live in oblivion of their existence. The cry of Jesus heart in Matt 9:37 and Lk 10:2 is more valid today than ever in history;
“The harvest is ripe but the laborers are few.”
There you have the difficulties of the task, a great harvest but inadequate number of harvesters.
Jesus in a quick rejoinder tells what the solution to this great problem is;
"Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest."
The harvest is ready, but where are the laborers? We need laborers out there. Thus the call to pray. Christians lets pray the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into his harvest. And perhaps you are one that the Lord of the harvest is send forth into His harvest, but you have liked your comfort more. Rise up and Go!
Dear Christian, do not be deceived by the cares of this world. It is temporal, and no matter how good you are at it, finally you will loose it. However, there's something you can gain that can never be taken away from you. That which you do for the Kingdom of God in obedience to the Master Jesus Christ goes beyond this age.
"He is no fool who looses what he can't keep
to gain what he can't loose."
There are millions out there in the world, who are calling out for God, seeking answers, and pleading for deliverance. They are looking for hope, but no hope is in sight. They are begging for answers. They are searching for light, yet they are imprisoned in darkness. They have never heard about Jesus who died for salvation of mankind. Do something about it!
